The Cinque Terre town of Manarola on the Italian Riviera is built along a stream which snakes its way down through steep hills to the Mediterranean. The stream is now completely covered over, hidden under the main street. The more tourist-oriented part of the village is down near the water’s edge and the upper village is more for the local inhabitants. As the main street winds its way up the hill, buildings hug the hillside while all around are terraced vineyards.
