Cooks Sand Faerie

I am quite fond of “sand faeries,” what I call those little runnels appearing on a beach between the tides or between the waves. As water drains back to the sea along a relatively flat beach, these little creatures can appear, sometimes looking like dancers, sometimes like flying dragons. And with the next wave or the next tide, they are gone. Like mayflies, their lives are ephemeral and brief.

This sand faerie, dancing with complete abandon, was at Cooks Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island.
