Taxi Stand, Havana, Cuba.

TAXI STAND

Opposite the old capitol building in Havana (modeled after the U.S. Capitol building), is a taxi stand consisting mostly of pre-1959 US cars. Most of the old US cars in Cuba have lost their original engines. At the same time, the much more recent Soviet-era Lada car bodies have rusted away, leaving their diesel engines looking for new homes. So, being the incredibly resourceful people that they are, the Cubans have often wed the two together, giving a '49 Chevy continued life with a Soviet Lada engine.
