Connecting the Right Bank with the Ile St. Louis, the Pont Louis-Philippe arches the Seine. From October 3 to November 2, 2009, the bridge and the quai walls all around the Ile St. Louis were covered with eyes of women from around the world, an art installation by French photographer JR titled "Women are Heroes." Part of Paris' annual "Nuit Blanche" or "all nighter" arts festival on the night of October 3, thousands of laser prints were pasted on to the walls by hundreds of volunteers working with the photographer. This image was photographed on October 5, 2009, while the installation was still fresh. But since this was an ephemeral piece -- time, weather, and the Paris public works workers have taken their toll on it.
