LE ROQUE GAGEAC
There are 32,000 villages in France and only 151 of them are designated as "The Most Beautiful Villages of France." Le Roque Gageac, on the banks of the Dordogne river is one of them. Nestled into a narrow strip of land between towering cliffs and the river, Le Roque, as it is affectionately known, was once a major port on the river. Now it is a must-see on the tourist route, but early in the morning in late September there is hardly a soul around. No tour buses, no crowds. Delightful.
