Sarlat-la-Canéda is a medieval town which has somehow managed to escape destruction by war or modernization by developers. It is now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The pedestrian zone of the old town center, surrounding the magnificient cathedral of Saint Sacerdos, becomes a vibrant market twice a week. I loved this display of umbrellas, the colors and patterns.
