SHUCKERS GLOVES, BELON
When buying oysters in Paris, be sure to ask for Belon oysters from the south coast of Brittany, purported to be the finest in France. The shuckers at Chez Jacky on the banks of the Belon river have left for the day, having left their gloves ready for work. We met the proprietor of this oysterie who told us much more about oysters than we could understand, not having enough French vocabulary to have a genuine repartee. But he showed us his huge collection of oyster shells from all over the world. We thought about sending him Wellfleet oyster shells from here in Massachusetts, but never did.
