FOUNTAIN, SOUILLAC, FRANCE
In the old town of Souillac in Périgord (southwest France), in a little square called Place du Puits, is the old source of drinking water for the whole town. There are two side-by-side hand-operated pumps (still operating), and the twin spigots are decorated with bizarre 19th century leonine escutcheons. All around the small square are outdoor cafés, but in the late September chill, few customers linger.
