LA TOUR DE LA NUIT #7, PARIS
Part of a series of images of the Eiffel Tower at dusk using a hand held camera and a slow shutter speed. In 2000, for the Millennium celebrations, the Tower was wired with thousands of tiny randomly blinking lights. The effect was so effective and stunning that it was decided not to remove the lights after the celebrations but to keep them. So now, every hour, for ten minutes, the tower sparkles. This image was made during one of those periods, and now the abstraction has feminized the tower, turning it into a whirling flamenco dancer, skirts billowing amidst a blaze of color.
