GREEN DOOR, MONTEROSSO
All of the five villages in the Cinque Terre region of the Italian Riviera are noted for their local wines. The terraced hills around each village are covered with vineyards, mostly white grapes. As it was October, the harvest was nearly over and wine-making was in full swing. Walking past open doorways in several of the villages, one caught the definite scent of fermentation and grape must. While the ladies mostly sit outdoors and converse, the men are hidden away in cellars making wine. So what was behind the green door? Probably a micro vintner.
