DOMINICA PALMS
I visited some dear friends on the island of Dominica back before it was ravaged by a hurricane. The property they lived on, called Antrim, had huge royal palms lining the driveway leading up to the very modest house. It is wonderful how 100 foot tall trees will dress up a place! But the house was perched on the edge of a steep ravine with a swiftly flowing stream at the bottom. Deep in the dense tropical jungle along the creek, these palms were growing. Shot with a flash, they stand out against the darkness of the surrounding forest. A few months after I left, during Hurricane David the royal palms were flattened and the roof came off the house, but no one was hurt.
