Oak Creek Canyon

OAK CREEK CANYON, SEDONA, ARIZONA

After a strenuous morning getting used to the time change, the altitude, and the temperature of the Sedona area, and a wonderful hike up to Devil’s Bridge, the cool depth of the West Fork of the Oak Creek Canyon was a welcome respite. While the temperature in the sun was in the nineties, in the canyon shadows it was twenty degrees cooler. The sheer walls of the canyon, just as the West Fork is about to join the main Oak Creek Canyon, are incredibly impressive. Shown here is a rock face about 100 feet high with the multicoloration due to eons of water depositing leached chemicals from the higher elevations.
