SHORE ROCKS #3, PESCADERO, CALIFORNIA
A few miles south of San Francisco, on the San Mateo County coast, is a stretch of shore line with some of the most amazing rock formations I have ever seen. Made of sandstone eroded into swirls, pockets, and bubbles, the abstract landscapes are reminiscent of Art Nouveau. Years ago, when I lived in California, I attempted to photograph these rock formations, but was never really satisfied with the results. In early 2008 we went back to the Coast and I spent several hours studying the enigmatic rocks of Pescadero and making a few images.
